Vintage Doilies

Who doesn't LOVE intricate, laser-cut cardstock in fanciful patterns and vintage distressing? Basic Grey's paper Doilies add a hint of delicacy and designer flair to all of your art projects!

Basic Grey Nook and Pantry Doilies - Green / Blue

I went far with my 12x12 sheet. Three layouts far + I've still got lots of left-over pieces to create more stuff with - in due time. I shared 1 of my layouts titled "Wish - Hope" with you all a couple of weeks ago using part of this Doilies paper. Now I'm going to share 2 more layouts with you today.

Being that this challenge is to use a Doilies paper and a vintage photo I was inspired to go back into the 80's. Yup! I'm an 80's baby!
This 1st layout is titled "Vintage." For some reason it reminds me of Tiffany & Co. I guess because of that teal box and that HUGE smile on my face (I'm the little girl in front in the photo). I have no idea what I just un-wrapped that Christmas morning but it must have been something I really wanted. Scrapbooking goodies perhaps? LOL No....but anyway, I used the Doilies paper behind my lace trimming so that the soft white lace would show up better on the layout. Plus, it tied in rather well with the color scheme I had going on with the pink, white and teal. When I think "Vintage" I think of sepia, b/w and old washed out photo's like these. I think of....

....lace, crocheted flowers, soft floral patterns and different textures. So, I tried to include all of those elements into my layout.

The 2nd layout I'm sharing is titled "To see her is to love her." (Speaking of my mother's beauty). She was a real "looker" back then.

For this layout I also used....
7Gypsies Journey Savannah/Telfair

Prima Artistry Flowers

7Gypsies Fancy Skeleton Keys
Yes, that little monkey in the background is me. :-)

As you can see I used the Doilies paper along the edges to create a more detailed effect and it also brings out the green in my mother's dress.
Join the challenge by using any Doilies paper along with your vintage photos and create, create, create. Upload your creations into the Blue Moon Gallery for your chance to win a
$40 Gift Certificate
to use in the Blue Moon Scrapbooking Store!

That is an awesome prize! Don't miss your chance!
Have a good weekend everyone!

Susan's January Challenge!

Welcome to Thursday!

I'm here today to share with you, my LO that I created using this Basic Grey Doilies and the challenge for this month!

This is a Vintage Challenge - Remember the good old times when things were simple and neighbors and relatives all had doilies. The mothers and grandmothers gathering with the smell of small fine pastries, percolating coffee and crème filled the air. Make a layout using an old photo and a doily.

Here's how I made my LO.

~ I took a piece of cream color cardstock for the background.

~ I then cut the inside out of the doilie and temporarily stuck it to my page.

~ I then took my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and sprayed it over the entire page.

~ I removed the piece of doilie to reveal a really cool pattern created by using the holes in the doilie!

~ Then I proceeded to layer my paper, add the photo and the embellishments!

~ This photo of my sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was perfect for the challenge! Check out how they are ALL wearing Collars of Lace!!

You can also see more details on about this challenge on the blueblog! The prize is a $40 gift certificate to the store! Wow!

Can't wait to see what you create for this challenge!!

Vintage beauty.....challenge week

Greetings friends…hope your Wednesday is off to a great start! So is it just me or is January flying by…..I’m counting the days until Spring arrives….oh to see a Dandelion peek through the hard, cold grounds would be a lovely sight….

So are you enjoying our first challenge week so far? I personally am loving the idea of a week-long creative journey where each day a DT member is sharing her take on blending a bit of vintage flair, an old photo and Basic Grey doilies….a combination that I must admit intimidated me at first…but I’m never one to pass up a good challenge….so after some brainstorming here’s what a I came up with….

…..this vintage photo of a beautiful woman has been residing in my collection for some time and this challenge seemed to beckon for her to take center stage in my latest inspiration.....to alter a distressed frame….one in need of a bit of love and attention….. .....first on the agenda was to create a beautiful matt worthy of surrounding her lovely face….one that would include a border created with this Basic Grey doily…..perfect for stranding satin ribbon through the precut slits….certainly beats trying to use my hand punch to create a similar look where I’d have to measure just right….place the punch just right….then hope it all works....love that!
….a layer of pattern paper over the border adds a bit of the feminine and shabby touch that I just can’t resist…. ….for the finishing touches….vintage lace surrounds the frame to tone down the straight lines….while bits and pieces from the Prima 12 inch flower sprig that comes in the kit made their way too…..the two butterflies were layered for a bit more dimension and topped off with a vintage button…...and its “flight” created by stranding micro beads through craft wire adds some fun…..
….the flowers from the Prima sprig were layered with a bit of vintage sheet music, pearls, and micro beads…then finished with the leaves and curly “cues”….also from the same Prima flower sprig….and lastly a trinket pin adds a touch of elegance….
....and here's a sample of her gracing a wall....a simple yet elegant touch to any room.......
Alright my friends....now it's your turn to grab your doilies and old photos and create a vintage inspired creation too! The winner will get $40 to spend at the BlueMoon store and believe me you WANT this! Can't wait to see what you come up with:)

Now before you go....don't forget to checkout the BlueMoon blog where you can enter to win an autographed Tim Holtz die.....you can't pass up this once in a lifetime chance!

DID SOMEONE SAY CHALLENGE??

Happy Tuesday all! Beth here!
So what do you think about this challenge? Are you up for it? Here is a recap of the deets:
This is a Vintage Challenge - Remember the good old times when things were simple and neighbors and relatives all had doilies. The mothers and grandmothers gathering with the smell of small fine pastries, percolating coffee and crème filled the air. Make a layout using an old photo and a doily.
You can also see more details on blueblog! The prize is a $40 gift certificate to the store! YOW!

I ended up using my Basic Grey doily as a mask first. I turned the doily over (white back facing up) and laid it on a piece of yellow paper. I used Red Velvet Glimmer Mist and covered the entire doily. The yellow paper was my background and the actual, sprayed doily was used a partial frame around my vintage photo. (found at an antique store) I love finding old photos while antiquing!
Remember the little tin Making Memories pill box I got in my Flirtatious kit?
Well, I cut part of the backing out and used that on my layout as well. (after using a corner rounder, distresser and some ink) :D
The black pearls and gorgeous yellow brad came from the Flirtatious kit, as well. I TOLD you people that you can make so much with that kit! lol
I can't wait to see what you all came up with!! :P

Don't forget to stop by the blueblog for a chance to win an autographed Tim Holtz new alteration die!
Have a great week!

Melanie's January Challenge

Starting this month BlueMoon will be posting challenges for the design team and for You! Lisa has posted the challenge yesterday on the BlueMoon Blog and it reads like this:

This is a Vintage Challenge - Remember the good old times when things were simple and neighbors and relatives all had doilies. The mothers and grandmothers gathering with the smell of small fine pastries, percolating coffee and crème filled the air. Make a layout using an old photo and a doily.

I used the orange Basic Grey Doilies on my layout.

The brown frame around the layout is computer generated.

Here's my teapot to go with the theme...

The metal spoon from January Flirtatious kit was a perfect embellishment!

I made a few of the simple flowers just by cutting the patters out the paper.

Ok, get ready because it's your turn...go ahead and dig out your supplies! After you finished the challenge-show us! You can post in the BlueMoon gallery!

You can read about the challenge and prize on the BlueBlog. I can't wait to see YOUR layout!

Have a great day!

Brrrrrr....

Yes...it's cold where I live! And it will be cold for another couple of months yet before we start to see signs of spring and then SUMMER!! (yay)

This week, I decided to pull out some of my older photos. Don't you have a lot of those laying around? I have TONS!!! And because I know I will never be 'caught up' with my photos, I don't stress about it...I just scrap whatever photos I feel like scrapping!

This first LO is a photo of my older dd, and her two cousins. We used to live in the same city at one point and these three had so much fun together! This photo was taken on a beautiful fall day but it was COLD!! When I looked at the letters I had left from the Hugs and Kisses kit, I knew that a simple title like "Brrrr" would work!

Check out the letters! (can you tell which letters are the real 'r' and which one's I cut from another couple of letters?)

And look how I used a piece of the Pink Paislee Fabric that also came in the kit!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This next LO has a photo of my older dd with her poppy! She loved to swing. And loved, even more, to have poppy push her in the swing!
Can you believe that I STILL have letters left?? Amazing, I think!
Check out the flower I made using the LAST piece of ribbon!
And here are the pretty butterflies from the Webster's Pages paper from the kit!
So.....IF you have NOT purchased one of these kit yet, get one today!! The kit alone will inspire you to create soooo many beautiful creations!
Next week, we, the Design team, will be giving YOU a challenge! So be sure to check in each day for more inspiration and our interpretations of the challenge! It'll be FUN!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One more thing...IF you love 7 Gypsies, then you NEED to check out the Blue Moon Scrapbooking Blog for a fun contest!! It's happening RIGHT now!!

Have a scrappy day!
